Day Camp 2007 Home                      Welcome Letter

Dear Twilight Day Camper,

We have an awesome week planned with lots of fun activities.  During the week you will have a blast at the Archery, BB Guns & Slingshot Ranges.  On Thursday, there will be an Egg Drop.  On Friday, we will have the  Water Park.  Don’t forget to bring  your squirt guns and water balloons on Friday.

And this year for all of our Twilight Day Campers, we have a Friday evening Campfire Program.  You won't want to miss this!

We can’t wait to see you on Monday, June 18th - 22nd at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base. Here are a few reminders and some additional information for you and your parents.

Plan to arrive at camp by 2 PM on Monday and 3:00 PM Tuesday-Friday.  It is very important for everyone to arrive on time so we can start the opening ceremonies at 3:00 PM and have as much time for our Day Camp as possible.

Your parents or ride should come for closing at 7:45 PM each day except Friday. On Friday be sure to come early at 7:00 PM and enjoy the entertainment of our Campfire Program.

Please wear closed toed shoes, your Day Camp 2007 shirt, a hat, shorts and sunscreen each day.  The camp shirts will be issued to your camp Den Leaders at their training/orientation.

Please bring a sack lunch and a water bottle everyday.  Lunches will be stored in coolers in your Den area. We will have water in Water Buffalos for refills throughout camp.  Also, please bring a chair to have at your Den.

Cub Day Camp is located at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos:  Going north on the 405 freeway exit Seal Beach Blvd., turn right (Seal Beach Blvd. becomes Los Alamitos Blvd) and proceed north to Katella Blvd and make a right. Take Katella to Lexington and make another right hand turn. Lexington ends at the front gate of the Base. Be advised that current ID and insurance is required to enter the Base. Tell Security you are here for Cub Scout Day Camp.  After entering the base, proceed south and turn left at the second left turn.  The parking lot is on your left as you pass Shiloh Way. Proceed to the second left turn, which is the entrance to the parking lot.  Once in the parking lot, proceed to the north-east corner of the parking lot and park your vehicle. Any cars parked out side this parking lot will be ticketed and towed.  Please observe the posted speed limit signs (15 MPH).  Exit your car and proceed due east to the Cub Scout Day Camp registration area.

Sign-in and sign-out directly with your camp Den Leader each day in your assigned Den area.  On Monday only, there will be a registration area between the parking lot and the Cub Scout Day Camp to check in by the first letter of your last name.  Any parent that did NOT complete the Orange Frontier District Registration form will need to sign the Parent Permission Form for your Scout to participate in any of the Day Camp Shooting Sports, Archery, BB Guns, & Slingshots.  If another adult is taking your scout to Cub Camp on Monday, please complete and sign a new registration form from our website, and send with your Cub Scout.  After Monday morning, adult volunteers & visitors must sign in at the Administration area next to Aquatics events at the baseball diamond.

Please carpool as much as possible!!!  Even volunteers, as parking is scarce and we want to eliminate as much traffic on the roads through the Base as possible!

Training/Orientation for all adult and youth volunteers is 1:00 - 3:00 PM on both Saturday & Sunday, June 16 & 17 at the Base picnic area.  Volunteers must attend one of these training sessions and also complete Youth Protection Training (YPT) and Safety Afloat/Safe Swim Defense.  YPT must be taken every 3 years and Safety Afloat/Safe Swim Defense is good for 2 years.  Online training is available on the Orange Frontier District Website http://orangefrontier.ocbsa.org.

Will I work on my Cub Scout rank?

Most Camp programs are based on a boy’s Cub Scout Rank for the following year. Many of the activities that are fun, provide opportunities to complete rank advancement and belt loops. These give campers a head start for advancement in their handbooks for their upcoming rank. The camp program focuses on age appropriate activities, so it is very important that we know what grade he will be entering in the fall of 2007. While at Camp, boys who are:

Entering 1st Grade will work on Bobcat & Tiger
Entering 2nd Grade will work on Wolf
Entering 3rd Grade will work on Bear
Entering 4th Grade will work on Webelos I
Entering 5th Grade will work on Webelos II

What happens if I change my mind about coming to camp?

CAMP FEES ARE TRANSFERABLE - BUT NOT REFUNDABLE.
Youth asked to leave camp for discipline reasons will not receive a refund.
Requests to transfer fee must be made in writing to: The Day Camp Director, Chris Mattison.

Can I get an extra T-shirt?

Extra t-shirts may be ordered with registration and are $8.00 each (XXL and XXXL are $10.00 each). Extra shirts may not be available during camp for purchase or exchange.

STAFF/VOLUNTEERS

How can I as a parent help out?

Camp is staffed entirely by parents and volunteers. WE Need for YOU to be a part of the FUN! When you volunteer to be a Den Leader or on the Day Camp Staff, you will be asked to attend Staff Training. You can volunteer to help out by completing a Adult Registration form and sending it to your unit's Day Camp Registrar. The Camp Director will contact you to discuss how you may help at the Day Camp. The Staff Training you receive is designed to provide the knowledge and skills you need to fulfill your duties as a Den Leader or Day Camp Staff member.

Packs should send one adult Den Leader for every four Cub Scouts who attend Camp.

If a staff member attends Camp Staff Training, helps out every day that Camp is held, & pays a registration fee for his/her son, he/she will receive a $10 Scout Shop gift certificate at the end of camp.

If I volunteer, what do I do with my non-scout age children?
Our Day Camp have a special Tot Lot program for the younger children of Staff volunteers. All children that stay in the Tot Lot must be potty-trained. Older siblings are placed in a Sibling Den and participate in all Day Camp activities and events.  There is a $5 per day fee (maximum $20) and there is there is a one time $5.00 fee for the Camp T-shirt and event supplies, which is due during the normal Day Camp registration process.

Den Chiefs needed!

We are accepting registration for Boy Scouts to be Den Chiefs at this year’s summer Cub Scout Day Camp. Boy Scouts wishing to be selected as a Den Chief must be capable of showing mature leadership to younger Scouts and a willingness to follow the directions of their Adult Den Leaders.
For more information and the application here is the Den Chief Application

In order to transform the Base into a "Passport to Adventure", we need a lot of adult and youth volunteers beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 16th and 12:00 noon on Sunday, June 17th.  For those adults attending the orientation training, we welcome your help before and after the training.  Please come and help set up the camp for all our Cub Scout Day Campers.

See you at our Orange Frontier District Twilight Cub Scout Camp Day Camp 2007!

Sincerely,

The 2007 Orange Frontier Twilight Day Camp Staff
Chris Mattison at nuttymom@sbcglobal.net
